Fortunately, there are many different ways to address back pain that don’t involve drugs or surgery. They are both affordable and effective.
1. Spinal Decompression
This is an proven-effective, non-surgical, non-invasive technique for addressing back pain due to “slipped” discs, herniated discs, ruptured discs, or “hot” discs.
Spinal Decompression is a therapy in which a patient lays on a table, and a gentle mechanical traction is applied to the spine. The goal is to simply create a small amount of disc space, which allows a bulging or herniated disc to reduce in inflammation and size and allow healing to take place.
It is a painless therapy that takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. We have seen many patients who thought they needed surgery, make a full recovery using Spinal Decompression.
2. Laser Light Therapy
Class 4 Laser Therapy is an FDA approved medical device that stimulates rapid healing to a specific area. While it can and is used for joint pain and muscular injuries, it is used extensively in conjunction with Spinal Decompression to help alleviate disc inflammation and pain. By focusing the Laser Light to a specific, targeted area, it stimulates mitochondrial activity, healing, increased blood flow, and does so for the muscles surrounding the spine, which in an acute phase can be very tight and “locked up” as the body is trying to protect the injured area.
Laser Light Therapy is an incredible tool for supporting lower inflammation and localized healing. We use it frequently with patients who are in serious pain.
3. Functional Movement Training
Functional Movement Training (FMT) is a type of physical training that seeks to create muscular stability in the body to support a healthy spine, rib-cage position, and head posture. Muscles attach to bones, and both have to be in a good position in order for the body to work properly.
FMT is where we get much of our progress when we seek to do “curve correction”. Curve Correction is where we attempt to reshape the spine naturally, without surgery. These techniques have helped patients regain the proper curvature of their spines, which then facilitates a more healthy movement pattern, all of which creates pain relief.
4. Massage Therapy
Did you know there are many different types of massage therapy? There is the relaxing “fluff and buff”, which is a general “feel good” type of massage, and is the traditional massage that people think about when they go get a massage.
We utilize Medical Message, which is a type of deep-tissue massage designed to address problem areas of the back and body that are contributing to chronic pain or dysfunction. These types of massages are not always pleasant! They can be uncomfortable, but we’ve seen that the payoff is well worth it after the massage is done.
5. Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care may not be as “little known” as the other solutions, but there are many who suffer from chronic back pain who have never given chiropractic care a try. There are also many different varieties and forms of Chiropractic care, and one style of chiropractic may not be the answer a patient needs. Many Chiropractors are trained in multiple styles, so having a Chiropractor who can utilize different techniques that work for a specific patient is very important for success.
